The Battersea Power Station which has an iconic status in the city of London is set to be restored. The design for this £5.5b scheme is being prepared by Raphael Vinoly and had been submitted for approval in October 2009.

The mayor of the city of London has appreciated some of the features of the design but has expressed his reservation about the fact that it is not in line with the larger plan of the city – the London Plan.

That the place is of great historical significance and so any change in the area should be done without damaging the main character of the riverside setting has been emphasised by him.

Johnson has asked for further clarification on the impact on parking and existing transportation of the area. There is some retail space in that area and the impact on these existing structures has to be ascertained. He expressed hope that with some changes the master plan thus designed will not only take care of the issues raised by him but also benefit the councils of Lambeth and Wandsworth.
